Idag firas Halloween over there och jag kan bidra absolut noll vad gäller skräck och läskigheter i böcker. Jag drömmer lätt mardrömmar om otäckheter jag läst och därför läser jag sällan. En och annan polisdeckare kan slinka igenom, men alltför psykologiska kriminalromaner och ren skräck går oftast bort. Om jag ska läsa så ska det vara riktigt bra. Som Belinda Bauer. Som Gillian Flynn, typ.

Jag var sorglöst oinsatt och ointresserad av Quickhärvan tills jag läste reportaget i Filter om Hannes Råstam då jag snabbt såg ikapp de två avsnitten av Uppdrag Granskning som Råstam gjorde för några år sedan. När man nu läser boken så redogör den i stort sett för samma sak som teveprogrammen, men med fler detaljer. Det har inte tillkommit särskilt mycket fakta, men boken är ändå minst sagt läsvärd. Det finns en obeveklighet i Råstams berättande som väl får tros avspegla hans journalistiska grävarstil. En lågmäld humor finns någonstans också – jag skall avsluta det här inlägget med ett… Läs mer
Dags att resa till Berlin i verkligheten och till Wien med Enligt O. Rent fysiskt har jag aldrig varit i Wien men jag befann mig där i somras när jag läste den fantastiska Haren med bärnstensögon. På bokmässan lyssnade jag dessutom till Edmund de Waal, jag kan bara uppmana alla som är intresserade av Europas historia och konsthistoria att läsa. Lite ungdomens Ultravox på det!
Med anledning av vår resa till Berlin i övermorgon så kommer en repris av mitt allra första inlägg på bloggen: Kunzelmann & Kunzelmann:

Det är med viss bävan jag ser fram emot att testa currywurst i Berlin och inte blir man mer sugen när man till slut får reda på hur receptet, av en slump, blir till i krigsslutets Hamburg. Nyfikenheten över den inte alltför eleganta rätten får berättaren, Uwe själv tror jag minsann, att muta en gammal dam med tårta för att få höra hemligheten, men först vill hon berätta en kärlekshistoria som utspelar sig i krigets absoluta slutdagar. Jag tror nog att Uwe är mer intresserad av denna än av korven också med lite perspektiv. Det är en… jag får förfalla till att använda det slitna ordet ”gripande”…… Läs mer
Nu var det väldigt länge sedan jag läste John Irving – vi pratar Owen Meany som pocket – men när han nu dyker upp i Babel känns minnena av hans böcker inte helt problemfria. Jag älskade Garp som alla andra, men när man kisar lite, tittar på vad han skriver så här i efterhand: visst är den lite tveksam, den östkustska, halvintellektuella medelklassrädslan för ”White Trash”, detta uttryck som med rätta börjat ifrågasättas som icke politiskt korrekt? Rädslan för de inskränkta outbildade som våldtar ens familjemedlemmar eller försöker massmörda oskyldiga immigranter.… Läs mer
